A major controlled construction detonation was completed on Wednesday in the Florida Everglades as part of the ongoing Everglades Agricultural Area Reservoir Project led by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Jacksonville District.

The operation is described as one of the largest controlled construction detonations ever conducted and forms part of a wider effort to restore the Everglades.

Officials stated that the detonation was carried out to efficiently use the material produced on site. That material will be used in the construction of a dam made from natural materials.

The dam is intended to meet required dam safety standards as the reservoir project continues to develop.

The controlled blast is considered a key component in the broader restoration work taking place across the Everglades.
