Pickup Truck Wades Through Knee-Deep Floodwater on Swamped Florida Street

A pickup truck waded through knee-deep floodwater on a swamped residential street in Palm Bay, Florida, on the morning of Monday, November 2, after torrential overnight rain.

Footage filmed by X user WeatherManSeek in central Palm Bay, at the intersection of Rome Avenue and Nebraska Street near Malabar Road and Babcock Street, shows a street completely underwater in heavy rain. Mailboxes stand in the flooded road and front yards, as the truck drives slowly through the water past parked cars.

“I can not urge this any harder. DO NOT GO OUTSIDE UNDER ANY REASON BESIDES A LIFE THREATENING EMERGENCY. Water is beginning to flood homes and cars at a very rapid rate,” the filmer wrote.

The filmer later said the water was over their knee at the stop sign, adding: “I’m 6ft.” They said they had been going door to door to check on neighbours and had seen people driving around with boats on trailers to check on others.

The National Weather Service in Melbourne issued a flash flood emergency for West Melbourne and Palm Bay, warning of a “particularly dangerous situation” after 12 to 15 inches of rain fell, with 3 to 5 more inches possible.

Brevard Public Schools closed all schools on Monday, and emergency officials urged people to stay home. Babcock Street at Palm Bay Road and at University Boulevard was among a long list of roads closed by flooding, WESH reported.
