Young Protesters Rescue Panicked Woman From Tear Gas in Grenoble
Three young protesters took a panicked older woman by the hand and led her away from a march under tear gas fire in Grenoble on Saturday, October 24.
X user Elliot Morlong filmed the group sheltering the woman by a building on Avenue Albert 1er de Belgique, as the masked teenagers helped her, comforted her and walked her down a side street. Further along the road, crowds of marchers moved past as a cloud of tear gas hung over the avenue.
“Three young people take by the hand a panicked woman trapped by crowd movements on Avenue Albert 1er de Belgique and lead her away from the procession, which is under tear gas fire,” the filmer wrote.
About 10,000 people marched in Grenoble, according to local authorities, on a second Saturday of nationwide protests against the rising cost of living. Police fired tear gas through much of the afternoon as clashes broke out on the fringes of the march, and a supermarket on the same avenue was looted.
Local authorities later said eight police officers and seven protesters were injured, and six people were arrested.
