A swollen brook surged through a residential neighborhood on Sunday, turning lawns and streets into fast-moving brown water as Westport was hit by about 7.19 inches of rain in a few hours.

Water spread around homes, hedges and parked cars before reaching downtown streets. A silver sedan pushed through axle-deep floodwater near the William Pitt Sotheby’s office, Masonic Hall and the 180 commercial building.

The rain fell at rates of 3–4 inches per hour in the Norwalk–Westport corridor. Brooks connected to the Saugatuck River, including Deadman Brook, rose over their banks.

The Westport Fire Department handled roughly 120–130 flood calls, rescued 13 people from vehicles and helped evacuate several homes. One firefighter suffered a minor injury.

Jesup Road at Imperial Avenue was closed after a bridge was damaged. Officials reported no civilian deaths.
