Waterspout Erupts Over Gulf As Towering Funnel Stuns Pensacola Beach Watchers
Video filmed by X user RB Hodl’er shows a fully formed waterspout spinning over the Gulf of Mexico off Pensacola Beach on the morning of September 7, 2026.
The funnel drops from a dark storm base to the water, kicking up a spray ring at the surface. It remains over the Gulf throughout the footage, while white sand, turquoise nearshore water, palm trees and mid-rise condos fill the foreground.
A tall reddish-brown tower with stacked white balconies frames several shots. People remain on the beach and boardwalk, while a few stand on a balcony of the high-rise watching the spout.
Other reports described at least two waterspouts along the western Panhandle, including Navarre Beach. Special marine warnings were issued for coastal waters from the Pensacola area toward the Okaloosa-Walton line, citing storms capable of waterspouts and gusts of 34 knots or more.
No damage or injuries are visible in the videos, and the spout does not come ashore. Waterspouts of this type are common over warm Gulf waters in late summer and become a tornado warning concern only if they move onto land.
