The Angeles National Forest posted the footage on October 4, showing flames burning in a solid line along a ridge as a column of dark smoke rises into the clear sky.

The fire started at about 2:16 p.m. on October 3 near Bouquet Canyon Road and Quarry Road, about eight miles northeast of Saugus. By the time the footage was posted, the fire had burned 1,044 acres and was 30 percent contained.

Bouquet Canyon Road was closed from Spunky Canyon to Vasquez Canyon, while night-flying helicopters continued working the fire.

Containment reached 48 percent by the night of October 4, 63 percent on October 5, 71 percent on October 6 and 83 percent by the evening of October 7.

Evacuation orders and warnings were lifted on October 6, except for one area on the fire perimeter. Bouquet Canyon Road reopened around 12:30 p.m. on October 7.

The fire burned through steep terrain with limited access. Its cause remains under investigation by the Forest Service and the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
