Violent Storm Turns Guayaquil Streets Into Rivers, Stranding Cars and Flooding Mall
Torrential rain and an electrical storm flooded streets across Guayaquil on Monday, October 26, leaving cars and taxis stranded in deep water around the city’s Mall del Sol.
X user Alvaro Rodriguez, a local businessman, filmed the flooding near the shopping centre, as yellow taxis and cars ploughed through brown water covering a wide avenue and rain lashed a pedestrian bridge over the gridlocked traffic.
Dozens of neighborhoods were left under water, with flooded streets, power cuts and traffic chaos across the city, and water also got inside the Mall del Sol. Authorities deployed response teams and warned of more heavy rain until Wednesday, October 28.
