View From Plane Window Shows Bryson Fire Line Glowing Over Malibu
A passenger looking out the window of a commercial plane filmed a glowing line of flames from the Bryson Fire burning across the dark hills above Malibu at dusk on October 15, 2026.
X user Randall Hunt filmed the fire from his seat on Delta flight 2267, which was flying from San Francisco to Los Angeles that evening. From above, a jagged line of orange flames burns along the ridges as a plume of grey smoke drifts toward the coast, with the ocean and an orange sunset sky in the background. As the plane passes, the passenger zooms in on the fire line, where faint red and blue emergency lights can be seen.
The fire started at about 4:41 p.m. near Encinal Canyon Road, according to Los Angeles County officials, and was pushed by strong Santa Ana winds. It grew to more than 100 acres within about two hours, prompting evacuation orders for Zuma and Trancas canyons and the evacuation of a nearby youth probation camp.
By Friday, October 16, the fire had burned 146 acres and was 17% contained, officials said. No structures were lost or damaged, though about 100 were threatened, and all Malibu schools were closed.
