Utah Wildfire Zone Hit By Dangerous Debris Flows After Heavy Rain
Significant rainfall over the burn scar of the Cottonwood Fire triggered dangerous debris flows on July 17.
Drone footage shows mud, rocks, and vegetation-choked runoff covering Highway 89 and surrounding areas after heavy rain. Heavy equipment is visible clearing debris from roads and waterways.
Crews are actively removing blockages while preparing sandbags for community flood protection. An additional 1,500 sandbags were filled to assist with flood mitigation.
Residents and travelers are urged to use extreme caution when traveling in areas where flooding is possible. Post-fire debris flows remain a hazard in the area until vegetation recovers.
