Trooper Smashes Sunroof To Rescue Man Trapped In Sinking Car At New York Boat Ramp
A New York State Police trooper smashed a sunroof to rescue a man trapped inside a sinking vehicle at a boat launch ramp on Sunday, October 4, 2026.
Trooper Christopher Cady was dispatched to Cross Lake Marina in Cayuga County at about 2:37 p.m. after reports of a vehicle sinking with a man trapped inside.
Body-camera footage shows Cady standing on the vehicle’s roof in the water before breaking the sunroof with a window punch to reach the trapped man.
With help from a nearby citizen standing on the dock, Cady pulled the man out of the vehicle and brought him to safety.
State Police said the trooper’s actions and the civilian’s assistance prevented what could have been a very different ending. The agency did not release further details about how the vehicle entered the water or the man’s condition.
