Tornado Sweeps Across Illinois Farmland As Storm System Intensifies Over Rural Counties

Video filmed by X user Aleczander Nicholos captures a large, dark tornado moving across open farmland near Dwight, Illinois on the evening of June 11, 2026.

The footage shows a wide, violently rotating funnel of cloud and debris descending from a massive, turbulent supercell toward green fields. In the background, farm buildings including white barns with metal roofs, grain silos, and other structures sit beneath an ominous sky. Power lines and trees are visible as rain and swirling storm clouds surround the vortex.

The video continues with closer views of the tornado as it moves across agricultural land toward the Reddick area. The broad, dark funnel dominates the horizon while rain shafts and low-hanging storm clouds create a threatening scene over the flat Illinois countryside. The tornado is shown moving steadily across open fields as its rotation intensifies.

The footage documents a confirmed tornado that developed during a major severe weather outbreak across central and northern Illinois on June 11, 2026. The National Weather Service reported multiple strong tornadoes in the region, including activity near Dwight and Reddick, with warnings issued for Grundy and Kankakee counties.

The outbreak caused damage in several communities and formed part of a larger system that produced numerous tornadoes across Illinois and into parts of Indiana. The storms triggered widespread warnings as they moved through the region.

The footage highlights the sudden danger and destructive force of supercell thunderstorms sweeping across the area, leading to urgent alerts and emergency responses. No immediate reports of fatalities were linked specifically to this tornado, though the wider outbreak resulted in structural damage, power outages, and disruption across affected counties.
