Three Men Rescued After Boat Capsizes Two Miles Offshore In Florida
Three men were rescued after their boat capsized about two miles offshore near Port Everglades, with bodycam footage capturing Broward County Sheriff’s Office deputies reaching them as they waited on top of the overturned vessel.
The incident happened Monday night after the 17-foot Boston Whaler flipped, sending the men into the water. BSO marine and harbor patrol deputies rushed to the scene after hearing a mayday call reporting the capsized boat.
Bodycam footage captures deputies locating the men and moving closer to the overturned vessel.
“Can you all swim?” a deputy asked.
“Yes sir,” the men replied.
“One at a time. We’re going to get a little closer to you over here,” the deputy told them before directing one of the men toward the rescue boat.
One of the men asked where the Coast Guard was. The deputy replied that the Coast Guard was coming, but said the immediate priority was getting the three men aboard the BSO boat.
The deputies then asked whether anyone was injured before bringing all three men aboard. Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue units and the U.S. Coast Guard also worked with BSO during the maritime rescue.
The overturned boat was later taken away by sea tow. None of the three men were injured.
