Tesla Engulfed in Towering Flames as Riot Police Advance Past Burning Car in Paris
Paris, France – A Tesla was set on fire in eastern Paris near Porte de Charenton on Saturday evening, October 31, on the sidelines of a march against the rising cost of living.
X user @AurelienParet_ filmed the car burning in the street. Tall flames came out of it and thick black smoke rose above the trees as people walked past.
A line of helmeted riot police then moved up the road past the burning car.
Porte de Charenton was where the authorised Paris march ended. The march had started at Porte de Bagnolet, after France's top administrative court banned the planned route from Bastille to Nation.
Most of the march was calm, but clashes broke out between police and hundreds of protesters when it reached Porte de Charenton, French media reported. A gendarme was slightly hurt when a petrol bomb set his leg on fire. Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez called the attack "attempted murder".
Paris police counted 70,000 protesters in the capital. Organisers said 200,000 marched in Paris and close to half a million across France.
