Rennes, France – Thick clouds of tear gas filled a Rennes street as riot police and a water cannon moved towards demonstrators during a nationwide strike protest.

Footage filmed by X user Philleray on Thursday, November 5, shows white gas drifting along the tree-lined avenue while people gather on the pavement and record the scene. A CRS Police Nationale water cannon then advances down the road, escorted by officers in riot gear carrying shields, with a crowd of demonstrators and flags visible further ahead.

Philleray, who is based in Rennes, wrote that the gas had been released during the November 5 demonstration. Tens of thousands marched in the Breton capital that day, with authorities reporting clashes and the use of tear gas along the route.
