Spanish Officer Climbs Down 16-Foot Well To Rescue Two Severely Malnourished Dogs
A Spanish Civil Guard officer climbed down a 16-foot-deep well to rescue two severely malnourished dogs found trapped inside on September 9.
Footage released by the Guardia Civil shows a SEPRONA agent in a green uniform and white helmet descending into a reed-filled hole in dry ground. He lifts a black-and-white dog into a carrier before bringing up a second, pale-colored dog whose ribs are clearly visible.
Both animals are placed in a white-and-blue crate after being brought to safety.
Neighbors alerted authorities after discovering the dogs inside the well. Following their rescue, a veterinarian examined both animals before they were handed to local police in Malagón and transferred to an animal shelter.
The dogs were receiving food and care at the shelter when the authorities issued their account of the rescue.
One person is under investigation on suspicion of animal abuse, and the case has been referred to the courts. The individual has not been publicly identified.
