Snow Falls On High Andes Road As Trucks Cross Argentina-Chile Border In Freezing Conditions
Snow fell along the high-altitude Cristo Redentor border crossing on 12 October as trucks and other vehicles traveled through the snow-covered Andes between Argentina and Chile.
X user OSVALDO filmed a cargo truck making its way along the wet mountain road toward a tunnel cut through snow-covered rock, with snowbanks lining both sides of the pavement as light snowfall reduced visibility.
The conditions followed earlier closures caused by heavier snow. On 12 and 13 October, the integrated border crossing was open 24 hours for all vehicle types, including trucks and passenger vehicles.
Authorities urged drivers to exercise caution because of the snow and rapidly changing weather. Temperatures at higher elevations dropped well below freezing, reaching around minus 13 degrees Celsius near Las Cuevas.
