Sheriff's Helicopter Plucks Injured Motorcyclist From Steep Embankment off Highway 1

Sonoma County, United States – A sheriff's helicopter crew lifted an injured motorcyclist out of a steep embankment beside Highway 1 in Sonoma County, California, using a 100-foot longline.

Footage released by the Sonoma County Sheriff's Office shows the crew inside the helicopter Henry-1, then a camera on the line looking down as the rescuer and the victim are hoisted up from the dry grass and flown to a waiting ambulance.

The crash happened near Reef Campground at about 11:20am on October 31, when the motorcyclist left the road and travelled around 20 feet down the embankment, the sheriff's office said.

The crew used a hot seat rescue device to extract the victim, who was transferred to a medical helicopter and flown to a trauma hospital.
