Severe Tornado Spins Across Indiana Farmland As Storm Cell Intensifies

Video filmed by X user Mark R shows a massive rotating funnel cloud dropping from dark, turbulent storm clouds over wide green farmland on the evening of June 16, 2026.

The tornado appears as a wide, wedge-shaped column of condensation and debris, twisting and shifting as it makes contact with the ground in the distance. Heavy storm bases hang overhead, while scattered breaks of lighter sky and sunset tones break through the cloud cover.

In the foreground, a bright red fire hydrant stands on the grassy edge of a paved area or roadside, giving scale to the vast rural landscape. Fields of corn or soybeans stretch toward the horizon, where low buildings, likely farm or industrial structures, sit across the flat terrain.

Small dark specks, possibly birds or debris, move through the sky as the powerful vortex maintains its rotation throughout the footage.

The tornado formed during a severe weather outbreak across central Indiana. Local authorities reported a brief touchdown southeast of Greencastle in Putnam County between approximately 8:45 and 9:00 p.m. local time.

The event was part of multiple tornado warnings issued as supercell thunderstorms moved across the region during an active period of severe weather in the Midwest.
