President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva won the runoff with 51.79 percent of the valid votes, against 48.21 percent for Flávio Bolsonaro, according to the electoral court, a comeback after he trailed in the first round.
Crowds chanting “It’s the fourth!” in honour of Lula’s fourth term filled Avenida Paulista, where the president later addressed thousands of supporters in front of the São Paulo Museum of Art.
