Sakurajima Volcano Erupts As Ash Cloud Rises Over Southern Japan
A series of eruptions occurred at Sakurajima on the morning of June 7, 2026, sending ash into the air and affecting surrounding areas.
At 06:52 (JPT), an eruption produced a plume reaching approximately 900 meters above the crater. The volcanic activity formed part of multiple eruptions recorded during the morning.
Ashfall was observed in Kagoshima city following the eruptions, indicating the spread of volcanic material beyond the immediate crater area.
The activity at Sakurajima continued as part of the eruptive sequence, with visible emissions rising above the volcano during the early hours of the day.
