Sagrada Família Vanishes Into Heavy Rain And Mist As Autumn Storm Hits Barcelona

The Sagrada Família disappeared into heavy rain and grey mist on Tuesday as the first major autumn storm swept across Catalonia.

Video filmed by X user Barcelona Oculta shows rain streaking across the basilica as a crane stands against its central tower. A large cross topped by a red warning light rises above the structure, while winged angel statues stand on the surrounding towers.

The camera then pans toward another section of the basilica, revealing towers with fruit-shaped pinnacles, scaffolding and a gold statue below.

Barcelona Oculta posted the footage at 09:59 GMT during the storm, describing heavy rain and lightning over Barcelona.

Fabra Observatory recorded more than 70 litres of rain per square metre in the city. Metro stations, the Ronda de Dalt and streets elsewhere were also affected by flooding.
