Rescuers Battle Through Flooded Nepal Tunnels In Ongoing Search Operation
Rasuwa–Nuwakot, Nepal – Rescue teams are continuing efforts to search flooded hydropower tunnels after the August 26 glacial-collapse flood buried multiple tunnels in the Bhotekoshi and Trishuli valley.
The Nepal Army, Armed Police, Nepal Police and foreign technical teams have been pumping sludge and probing tunnels including Upper Trishuli-1, Trishuli-3A, Trishuli-3B, Langtang, Chilime and Rasuwagadhi.
The ongoing response also includes medical camps for civilians affected by the disaster.
Two workers were pulled alive from Trishuli-3A on September 4 after nine days, while a Chinese national was rescued from Upper Trishuli-1 the following day.
Army statements through mid-September put the number of people believed trapped across the tunnels at about 121, while air rescues of civilians have continued.
