Pope Leo XIV Departs Madrid Under Tight Security Escort At Airport

Pope Leo XIV left the Spanish capital as he departed from Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas International Airport, continuing his official visit to Barcelona under a large coordinated security operation.

The Pope’s departure marked the end of his time in Madrid, where he had taken part in major public events during the first leg of his journey in Spain.

At the airport, security forces managed a tightly controlled operation as the Pope was escorted from the terminal toward the aircraft.

Personnel maintained strict perimeter control around the tarmac and aircraft area while overseeing all movement connected to the departure.

Specialized units worked across the airport environment to ensure a secure transfer, coordinating the Pope’s passage to the plane.

The aircraft was visible on the runway as the final security steps were carried out ahead of takeoff.

Once preparations were completed, Pope Leo XIV boarded the aircraft and departed Madrid for Barcelona, where he was expected to continue his visit.
