Pope Leo XIV arrived in Gran Canaria on June 11, 2026, to begin a meeting with migrants in the Canary Islands, drawing large crowds and a major security operation across the region.

Footage shared by Guardia Civil shows officers deployed along a sunlit coastal route lined with palm trees and white buildings as preparations were made for the Pope’s arrival. Police motorcycles and security personnel were positioned at key locations while official vehicles moved through secured areas.

Later scenes from Muelle de la Esperanza in Puerto de Arguineguín, Mogán, show Pope Leo XIV standing on a white stage dressed in white robes. He is surrounded by clergy in red and black vestments and officials in dark suits as crowds gather behind barriers to witness the event.

Guardia Civil officers remained stationed around the venue throughout the proceedings, with additional personnel overseeing security near the stage and across the harbor area.

The visit marks the start of Pope Leo XIV’s meeting with migrants in the Canary Islands. Guardia Civil units, including traffic police, special groups, and mobile citizen services, coordinated efforts to ensure security and the smooth running of the event.

The gathering highlights the Catholic Church’s focus on migration issues in the Canary Islands, one of Europe’s main arrival points for migrants crossing from Africa. The extensive security measures reflected the significance of the Pope’s visit and the scale of the occasion.
