Jaén, Peru – Police officers waded into a swollen, churning river to save a man who had fallen in and was being swept away by the current.
Footage released by Peru's National Police shows an officer bracing against the brown torrent as he grabs hold of the man. Other officers and a civilian in a striped shirt then rush in across the rocks and carry the exhausted man to the bank.
According to the National Police, officers rushed to the Mesones Muro bridge after residents raised the alarm. The man had fallen into the Amojú River, whose current was strengthened by intense rains. He was rescued alive and taken to Jaén General Hospital for medical care.
