Police Drone Leads Officers to Runaway Boy Hiding Under Deck

A police drone hovering high above a Kansas City neighborhood tracked down a 7-year-old boy who had run away from home, guiding officers straight to his hiding spot under a deck.

The Kansas City Missouri Police Department shared the aerial footage on October 21. Seen from above, officers walk across a backyard to the deck beside a house, crouch down and help the boy out before leading him across the lawn.

The boy had run away earlier that Saturday morning and was found a couple of miles from where he was last seen, police said. The drone operator found him about six minutes into the flight and led officers to him.

The boy was checked by paramedics and reunited with his family. The drone belongs to the department’s Drones as First Responder program, which sends remotely piloted drones to certain calls before officers arrive.
