Ocean Surges Into Miami Beach Streets as Cars and Garbage Truck Plough Through King Tide Flood
Seawater flooded streets in Miami Beach on Monday morning, October 26, as seasonal king tides pushed water over the shoreline and into residential neighborhoods.
X user Luigi Congedo filmed the flooding from a balcony, as cars and a garbage truck ploughed through water covering a road lined with apartment blocks, while the bay lapped at the edge of a waterfront wall. “Miami South Beach major flooding happening right now,” Congedo wrote. “King tide is here.”
The National Weather Service had issued a coastal flood warning for Miami Beach from early Monday through Tuesday evening, with major flooding expected around high tide, which peaked shortly before 10 a.m.
King tides, the highest tides of the year, regularly cause flooding in low-lying parts of South Florida in the autumn. Officials urged people not to drive through floodwater.
