Night of Destruction as Storm Boelo Rips Through Blackpool, Toppling Lampposts and Smashing Shelters
Storm Boelo left a trail of toppled lampposts, smashed tram shelters and debris across Blackpool’s seafront in the early hours of Sunday, October 25, as gusts tore along the Lancashire coast.
X user Nodrog filmed the damage overnight, driving along the promenade and stopping to drag debris off the road. The footage shows a tram shelter with its glass panel blown out, a lamppost lying across the pavement outside the Coral Island arcade and foam blowing across the seafront, as Blackpool Tower glows green in the dark.
“I had to go out and shift so much stuff off the promenade, from bins to branches and trees and pieces of fabrication that’s come off roofs,” he says in the video.
The storm brought an amber wind warning to the north of Lancashire. Fallen trees blocked roads, parts of the Illuminations were damaged, and the roof was partly torn off a bar in the town. Blackpool Zoo and the North Pier closed, and tram services were still disrupted on Monday as crews repaired damaged overhead lines and shelters.
