Nepali And Indian Rescuers Push 50 Metres Into Flooded Nepal Tunnel
Video filmed by the Nepali Army shows a joint Nepali and Indian rescue team entering the Chilime hydropower tunnel after the August 26 Bhote Koshi flash flood.
The footage opens from a helicopter over a grey mudflat beneath a rock wall. Rescuers in orange suits and camouflage cross the sludge, while one person is helped on the ground.
At the tunnel entrance, rescuers in camouflage and yellow and orange helmets gather with ropes and packs. Soldiers shovel gravel and coil lines beside the rock face.
Two men wearing blue helmets marked “NEPALI ARMY” are seen inside the wet passage. Deeper in the tunnel, headlamps illuminate mud, debris and a low ceiling as rescuers in red helmets point into the darkness.
The Nepali Army said the joint team reached about 50 metres inside the Chilime tunnel while searching for missing workers. Indian officials separately reported that the same effort had set safety ropes and gained a foothold in the blocked, mud-filled passage.
The tunnel is in the Syabrubesi area of Rasuwa. Search work at Chilime continued into early September 2026 as hundreds of hydropower workers across Rasuwa remained unaccounted for.
