Mudslide Chaos As Shaky Knees Festivalgoers Slide Down Soaked Atlanta Hillside
Festivalgoers slid down a soaked hillside into mud during a heavy rainstorm as Shaky Knees Music Festival was evacuated at Piedmont Park on Saturday evening.
Organizers ordered the park cleared just before 7 p.m. on September 19 after lightning and a severe thunderstorm hit metro Atlanta. Taking Back Sunday and Blood Orange had their sets cut short.
As rain soaked the grounds, people ran, slipped and rode down the muddy slope on their backs and sides while others watched from the grass.
Doors reopened at 9:20 p.m. for Twenty One Pilots, while Pierce the Veil, The Prodigy and Pavement did not perform. Some earlier acts were also canceled.
Sunday’s festival lineup went on.
