Massive Waves Pound Virginia Beach As Powerful Nor’easter Batters Coast
Massive waves pound the shoreline as a powerful nor’easter lashes the Mid-Atlantic coast, with towering breakers crashing onto the beach beneath a dark, storm-filled sky.
The video was filmed by X user That One Guy from the Virginia Beach Marriott at about 7 p.m. on September 24, 2026. Large waves covered in thick white foam slam into the sand, sending brownish surge racing up the beach as the ocean churns toward the horizon.
A beachside resort with solar-panel roofs, palm trees and outdoor seating is visible below, alongside a brightly lit turquoise swimming pool that remains calm as the rough surf pounds the shoreline beyond the dunes.
The early-season nor’easter brought High Surf Advisories for breaking waves of 8 to 12 feet, coastal flood warnings calling for 2 to 3 feet of inundation in low-lying areas and dangerous rip currents in Hampton Roads.
Winds gusted above 50 mph at times, while significant beach erosion and elevated tides were reported as the full moon enhanced tidal levels. The storm also forced the complete cancellation of the Oceans Calling festival in Ocean City, Maryland.
National Weather Service alerts remained in effect through the weekend as the system slowly moved north, leaving rough seas and tidal flooding from Virginia to Massachusetts.
