Massive Shelf Cloud Sweeps Across Florida Coast Ahead Of Thunderstorms
Video filmed by X user Tampa Bay Storm Chaser shows a massive dark gray shelf cloud stretching across the horizon over Tampa Bay. The low, turbulent cloud base rolls over the water as rain falls in the distance.
Palm trees line parts of the shoreline, while a few boats and a distant pier appear on the calm bay beneath the approaching storm.
The footage was recorded on July 30, 2026, when a well-defined shelf cloud moved across Tampa Bay ahead of afternoon thunderstorms. Scattered heavy rain and storms affected the region as tropical moisture remained in place.
The weather pattern produced localized downpours typical of the summer conditions in west-central Florida.
