Mass Protest Erupts In Tirana Over Kushner And Trump-Linked Island Project

A massive nighttime protest took place in Tirana on May 31, 2026, as part of the “Albania is not for sale” movement.

Thousands of demonstrators filled a large public square or street, holding their smartphones aloft with flashlights switched on. The display created a striking sea of white lights that illuminated the night.

Many protesters also waved Albanian flags. As the camera moved across the densely packed crowd, it captured the scale and unity of the gathering.

The demonstration was one of the largest protests in recent weeks against a controversial luxury tourism project on the protected Sazan Island and Zvernec area, linked to Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump.

Protesters accuse the government of selling off Albania’s coastline and natural heritage to foreign investors. The slogan “Albania is not for sale” has become the rallying cry of the movement, with demonstrators demanding greater transparency and stronger protection for ecologically sensitive areas.

The march lasted more than two hours and concluded near the Prime Minister’s office.

The phone-light display has become a symbolic and visually powerful feature of these protests.
