Madrid Teachers Flood Gran Vía In Mass Protest Over Pay And Working Conditions
Thousands of public-school teachers took to the streets of central Madrid on October 15 during the second day of an indefinite strike over salaries, classroom ratios, resources and working conditions.
X user Lola Morales filmed demonstrators wearing green shirts and carrying flags and banners as they marched along Gran Vía as part of the “Green Tide” education protest. Protesters filled the roadway, displaying slogans calling for public education for all.
Unions and teacher platforms, including CCOO, UGT, STEM, CGT and CNT, called the strike across the Community of Madrid. Around 10,000 people gathered outside the regional education department on Calle Alcalá before demonstrators moved through the city centre toward Cibeles.
The march occupied central streets and disrupted traffic amid a dispute over salaries, classroom ratios, resources and working conditions in public schools.
