Lightning Strikes Golfer At Pretoria Driving Range In Startling Video

A golfer was struck by lightning while playing at a driving range, with the moment captured on video filmed by kayladeep.

The 60-second phone video shows an overcast Pretoria-area range. A man in a grey sweater, grey joggers and Adidas sneakers stands beside a black-and-white range pole with a driver in his hand.

After taking a swing, he crouches and empties a bucket of yellow range balls onto the grass. While setting a ball on a red tee, with the club still in his other hand, a bright flash hits.

He immediately jerks, drops the club and jumps back while holding his chest and hand. He then stands and looks at his palms. No rain is visible in the clip, while the sky remains grey.

The golfer was identified as Kgotatso Nape. He was recording his swing when the strike occurred, felt pain in his hands, went home first and then to hospital. The post said he had already spent two hours at the hospital.

The caption reads: “Today I got struck by lightning while playing golf, what you love will kill you. . . Mxm been here at the hospital for 2 hours.”

Follow-up posts from the same account mentioned checks of his heart, lungs and head, monitoring “mutations,” and trying to move a glass of water from the bed, described as jokes rather than a medical report.
