Lava Flows Pour From Kilauea Vent Overnight As Volcano Stays Pressurized
Lava poured from Kīlauea’s summit overnight as low-level activity returned to the volcano’s ongoing eruption.
The video was filmed just before 2 a.m. on October 16, 2026. During the night, the south vent inside Halemaʻumaʻu crater produced numerous lava flows. The activity continued into Friday morning and appeared to be ongoing.
The summit area remains highly pressurized. Data from the US Geological Survey’s Hawaiian Volcano Observatory show the ground is still inflating.
Scientists say eruptive activity could change, or move to a new spot within the summit region.
On October 12, lava erupted from the crater’s north vent in the shape of a dome and fed a small overflow inside Halemaʻumaʻu.
