A frightened squirrel was rescued from Ohio Stadium after becoming trapped among the bleachers during Ohio State’s season-opening football game against Ball State last weekend.

The sold-out stadium’s noise and crowds overwhelmed the animal. Fans who spotted the squirrel tried to keep it calm by offering it pretzels while police officers were called to help.

Body camera footage shows an officer carefully capturing the squirrel and placing it inside a cardboard box to safely remove it from the stadium.

Once outside, the squirrel was released back into its natural habitat and appeared to be no worse for wear after its unexpected trip into college football.

The Perry Township Police Department praised Sgt. Delbert for responding to the unusual call.

“No crime. No arrests. Just one scared squirrel, a few generous fans, and Sgt. Delbert answering the call,” the department wrote. “Sometimes police work is serious. Sometimes it involves squirrels. Service Above Self — even when the suspect has four paws and a fluffy tail.”
