Flood Sirens Sound As Brown Floodwater Sweeps Across Road In North Carolina
Brown floodwater rushed across a road outside Chimney Rock on the morning of October 11 as the remnants of Hurricane Isaias brought renewed flooding to western North Carolina.
Flood sirens were activated in the Chimney Rock area, where the Rocky Broad River experienced moderate flooding near Bat Cave and Chimney Rock. County emergency officials sounded the sirens multiple times as flash flooding, standing water and overnight landslides were reported.
Main Street, part of US 64/74 in Chimney Rock, later reopened, although the eastbound lane near Dogwood RV Park remained closed.
Residents were warned not to drive through floodwaters. The area is still recovering from the devastation caused by Hurricane Helene in 2024.
