Firefighters Walk Through Flames As Wildfire Rages Across Spanish Forest
Firefighters battled the Tuéjar wildfire overnight, advancing through dense pine forest as flames spread through the undergrowth.
Units of the Third Battalion conducted a direct attack along the fire’s left flank during the night of September 15.
The fire started after 15:30 on September 15 near Cueva de las Palomas in Tuéjar, inside the Alto Turia Biosphere Reserve. Level 2 of the PEIF plan was declared.
By morning, the fire had reached roughly 880 hectares with an 18-kilometer perimeter. Two forest firefighters were lightly injured when a tanker rolled over.
Around 25 people were evacuated from a campsite, Fuente Cabera and Colonia de Benagéber.
The firefighting response included 13 aircraft, 55 ground units and more than 300 personnel.
