Firefighters Use Robot To Battle Massive Plastic Warehouse Fire Near Pisa

A major fire broke out at a warehouse used for processing plastic materials in the industrial area of Vicopisano on Monday morning, June 8, 2026, triggering a large-scale emergency response.

The blaze started at around 9:20 a.m. and quickly spread through the structure. Intense flames consumed sections of the warehouse while thick black smoke billowed high above the area.

Firefighters launched an extensive operation to contain the fire. Crews from multiple commands, including Lucca, Pistoia, Livorno, Florence, Prato, and Massa Carrara, were deployed to the scene alongside water tenders and other specialized vehicles.

As the fire continued burning into the afternoon, responders used drones to monitor conditions from the air and assess the extent of the incident. The smoke plume remained visible above the industrial zone as firefighting efforts continued.

More than seven hours after the fire began, the operation was still underway. Firefighters employed heavy water cannons, an airport response vehicle, a high-capacity water tender, and a remote-controlled firefighting robot to tackle difficult areas within the damaged warehouse.

The sustained response focused on extinguishing the blaze, cooling hot spots, preventing further spread, and protecting nearby areas as crews worked through the day to bring the incident under control.
