Firefighters Use Aircraft And Bulldozers To Stop 543-Acre Wildfire Near California Homes
Firefighters battled the Cyrus Fire near Lake Isabella on 9 October, using aircraft, ground crews and bulldozers to contain the blaze and protect nearby homes.
Footage shared by the Kern County Fire Department shows aircraft dropping water on the fire as smoke rises from dry, hilly terrain. Ground crews and bulldozers worked to establish fuel breaks and containment lines around the flames in the Cyrus Canyon area.
The fire started near Cyrus Canyon Road and Sierra Way northeast of Lake Isabella, growing to approximately 543 acres under the unified command of the Kern County Fire Department and the U.S. Forest Service’s Sequoia National Forest.
Crews stopped the fire’s forward progress on the evening it began. Evacuation orders were subsequently lifted by 11 October, and the fire had reached 90% containment by 13 October.
No structures had been reported destroyed in available updates, while the cause remained under investigation.
