Firefighters Teach Young Children How To Escape A Smoke-Filled Home During Fire Safety Demo
Firefighters taught young children how to escape a smoke-filled home during a fire safety demonstration at Bearfield Primary School in early October.
The Ahoskie Fire Department held the demonstration on the final day of Fire Prevention Week at the school, where students practiced moving low beneath simulated smoke and crawling through hallways toward an exit.
The lesson focused on how to escape a home and what to do if a fire starts. The children practiced navigating smoke-filled rooms while staying close to the floor, where visibility may be better during a fire.
Bearfield Primary School serves students from pre-kindergarten through third grade. No injuries were reported.
