Firefighters Battle Flames As Wildfire Rages Through Spanish Pine Forest
BRIF firefighters worked overnight as intense flames raged through pine forest on the Pacios da Serra–Quiroga fire in Lugo.
The TED brigade from BRIF Tabuyo used technical fire backed by heavy machinery control lines to close the perimeter. Firefighters moved along the control line through thick smoke and glowing embers as flames spread through the trees.
The fire started around 15:25–15:30 on September 15 in Pacios da Serra, Quiroga, in the Serra do Courel and Ribeira Sacra area.
Strong winds and steep terrain drove rapid spread through pine plantations and scrub. Situation 2 was declared because of the fire’s proximity to some populated areas.
By September 16, burned-area estimates ranged from 250 to more than 320 hectares, with some local reports reaching 350–380 hectares.
The response included dozens of brigades, water trucks, excavators, helicopters, aircraft and BRIF Tabuyo crews deployed from León.
