Drone Reveals Homes Ripped Open by Rare Santa Fe Tornado
Drone footage revealed roofs torn open and debris strewn across yards in two Santa Fe neighbourhoods after a rare tornado tore through the New Mexico capital.
Footage released by the Santa Fe Police Department shows homes along Camino Chueco and in the Rancho Siringo area with chunks of roofing ripped away, insulation and timber scattered across the ground and damaged trees between the houses.
A police drone pilot carried out the safety assessment on the morning of Sunday, October 25, as the utility companies PNM and New Mexico Gas Company and city public works crews prepared to restore services and clear debris, the department said. It told homeowners they were welcome to use the video for insurance claims.
The National Weather Service rated the tornado an EF-1, with winds of about 110 mph along a path of about 1.4 miles. About 10 homes were damaged.
