Dawn Fire Sends Huge Smoke Column Over Buenos Aires As Apartment Blaze Forces Evacuation

A fire broke out in a Recoleta apartment building early Monday, forcing the evacuation of the 13-story block as flames spread through a fourth-floor rear apartment.

Footage filmed by X user Viviana Roldán shows flames breaking through the apartment as thick black smoke rises over the surrounding rooftops.

The blaze began in the living room of the apartment at Avenida Callao 1755, near Presidente Quintana, at around 6:00–6:25 a.m.

SAME treated five people for smoke inhalation, with at least one taken to hospital. Reports named Rivadavia or Fernández.

Firefighters brought the fire under control at about 7:30–7:40 a.m., while Callao was closed during the operation.

The building reopened by the afternoon but remained without gas and was operating on emergency lighting. The cause of the fire was not released.
