Dark Thunderstorm Spreads Over Lockport As Severe Weather Hits Manitoba

A severe thunderstorm moved through the Winnipeg area on the evening of June 9, 2026, producing dramatic cloud formations visible from the floodway near Lockport.

Video filmed by X user Mike Yak, captured from an elevated position on Highway 202 along the floodway, shows a powerful storm system advancing across the prairie landscape. Dark gray and deep blue clouds dominate the sky as the storm spreads over the region.

The footage reveals layered, shelf-like cloud structures stretching across the horizon, with possible rotation or rain shafts visible in the distance. In the foreground, grassy areas, wooden markers, and a gravel surface line the floodway.

Further back, rural roads, scattered trees, power lines, open fields, and a few illuminated buildings appear beneath the approaching storm. The scene reflects increasingly severe weather conditions as the system moves through the area.

The storm was part of a broader severe weather outbreak across southern Manitoba on June 9. Similar footage from Winnipeg earlier that evening showed funnel clouds and turbulent skies near the airport.

Environment Canada issued watches and warnings for severe thunderstorms, heavy rain, and possible tornadoes across the region. No specific damage reports were linked to this exact storm cell near Lockport, though conditions were considered hazardous.
