Brush Fires Rage Across West Miami-Dade As Crews Battle Flames From Air And Ground

Miami-Dade County, Florida – On June 16, Miami-Dade Fire Rescue and the Florida Forest Service continued efforts to contain two brush fires in west Miami-Dade.

Firefighters operated on the ground and in the air, working to contain the fires, monitor conditions, and stop further spread.

Air Rescue North and Air Rescue South from Miami-Dade Fire Rescue, along with multiple ground crews, supported suppression operations. Additional aerial assistance from Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue and the Florida Forest Service carried out water drop missions.

Shifting winds continued to impact smoke behavior in surrounding areas, affecting visibility on nearby roads. Drivers may have encountered smoky or hazy conditions, and temporary road closures remained possible overnight.

Authorities noted that those driving through smoke or haze should use extra caution, increase following distance, and use low-beam headlights.

Overnight conditions may also cause smoke to settle closer to ground level in nearby communities, with residents potentially seeing or smelling smoke.

People in affected areas were advised to limit outdoor activity, keep doors and windows closed, and set air conditioning systems to recirculate indoor air. These precautions were highlighted as especially important for individuals with respiratory conditions.
