Barcelona Streets Turn Into Raging Currents As Torrential Rain Floods Shops And Roads
Brown floodwater rushed down a tree-lined street on Tuesday as torrential rain battered the city, with water beginning to enter ground-floor premises.
Video filmed by X user Carles Restrepo Folch shows floodwater flowing along Carrer de Bailèn at Carrer d’Indústria, with parked scooters and a black motorcycle with green rims sitting in the current.
A white van and other cars move through the water as rain continues to fall. Yellow barriers surround a tree while the flooding flows toward shop fronts and a terrace with tables and umbrellas.
Restrepo Folch posted the footage at 10:04 GMT, saying water was starting to enter ground-floor premises at Bailèn and Indústria.
City firefighters logged 249 calls from 11:30 onward for flooded basements and shops as the storm hit Barcelona and the surrounding coast.
Fabra Observatory recorded more than 70 litres of rain per square metre, while reservoirs in the city reached about 90 percent. Metro stations and the Ronda de Dalt were also affected elsewhere.
