A residential street turned into a powerful brown current on Tuesday after torrential rain battered the Barcelona pre-coast.

Video filmed by X user Joan Anton Català Amigó shows floodwater covering the roadway, with blue and white hatchbacks sitting stranded beside a white gate and yellow construction barriers. The current flows around the stationary vehicles and past brick apartment blocks, trees and a white van farther up the street.

The official CAR weather station in Sant Cugat recorded 53.2 litres per square metre between 11:00 and 12:00, setting a one-hour record in its series dating back to at least 2013.

Carrer de Sant Jordi was among the worst-hit areas, with water entering homes, shops, garages and the El Patufet nursery. Neighbours later cleared mud and reeds from the area.

Bombers reported that water reached about 1.5 metres in some streets. A sewer overflow also flooded Plaça Doctor Galtés and nearby shops.

No injuries were reported from the street scene. The flooding was part of a wider storm that also affected roads in Barcelona and prompted a separate rescue in Gavà.
