Antifascist Crowd Confronts Far-Right Catalan Group In Barcelona
An antifascist crowd confronted supporters of the far-right Catalan group Aliança Catalana in Barcelona ahead of Catalonia’s National Day.
The confrontation took place at Fossar de les Moreres, where Aliança Catalana held an event led by party leader Sílvia Orriols. Left-wing pro-independence and antifascist groups gathered nearby in opposition to the event.
Police formed a cordon between the two groups as tensions grew. Officers carried out charges after some protesters attempted to break through the police line, and several people were arrested.
The antifascist side included thousands of demonstrators who opposed Aliança Catalana and its presence at the symbolic site.
